Rapscallion - A New Community For Torrent Forum Staff

November 08, 2010 by sharky

What if the BitTorrent community got together and pooled their information to catch invite traders, sellers and ratio cheaters? The concept itself isn’t a new one; in fact a system already exists between private trackers. It’s known that What.CD offers resources to tracker sysops & admins to catch & remove bad torrenters, available to those of the "Torrent Celebrity" userclass. That’s great for trackers, but bad BT behavior often begins well in advance of finding tracker invites. Unfortunately most Torrent Forum staffers are unable to access those tracker-to-tracker blacklists. Yet, as often is the case, bad members on torrent forums are the same as those found on trackers themselves - and are banned for exactly the same reasons. Is there a similar system set up that caters exclusively to torrent forum staff to share internal info amongst each other? Not until now.

Exposing the World of Tracker Invite Selling, Trading

October 10, 2010 by Buddhas Son

The world of private BitTorrent trackers revolves around basic principles of trust, friendship, and sharing. To break into the world of private trackers, it all starts with one invite. One account made where you realize what it takes to seed a torrent to a 1:1 ratio, what a pre-time is, what an announce channel is, the works. What happens when you are ready for a new tracker, when you have sucked the current tracker bone dry? Well the answer is that now it is time to go scrounging for an invite. Hmm, how do I get an invite? Well a normal person would get their invite from a thread in their tracker’s forum, or they would ask a friend, or they would start working their way up in one of the million tracker invite forums, or they would try to jump into a recruitment irc and get in to a tracker that way.

IMAGiNE and Other P2P Groups Collaborate to Create a P2P Tracker

September 11, 2010 by sharky

OK, we’ll take the bait. A source wishing to remain anonymous has informed FSF of ‘exclusive’ information about a new tracker. Not just any tracker, mind you. It’s a "P2P Tracker" launched by the popular group IMAGiNE which could also include other well-known P2P groups such as ViSiON, FLAWL3SS, KiNGDOM, PRiSM and Rx as well.

PREd Releases And Torrent Races, In One Site

June 14, 2010 by sharky

Here at FSF, we’re smitten with websites that offer a glimpse into "the scene". Whether it be PreDB/dupe sites that list an unwavering flow of scene releases, or scene trackers that do a little more than just index them. Previndico’s pre is a bit of an oddity: naturally you won’t find any torrents or DDLs here, but it’s a very interesting database for Pred releases. What makes this site special is that the pres are intertwined with private trackers & torrent races - all on one site.

January 04, 2010 by sharky

Traders. Scammers. Invite Sellers. Cheaters. If there aren’t already enough ways to wind up banned at private trackers, there’s a brand-new online app that can help you achieve your goal. Move over, uTraitor - RatioCheat is a clientless webservice that allows users to upload their .torrent files to build fake ratio statistics on private tracker accounts.

An Interview with TorrentLeech - A Living BT Legend

November 23, 2009 by sharky

Demonoid aside, few will contest that TorrentLeech.org is the most successful & popular English private tracker of all time. Coveted by millions and enjoyed by 180,000 - TL’s enormous fame is widespread - here’s a tracker that lives up to the hype. FileShareFreak caught up with w00t, the owner/SysOp of TorrentLeech, who was kind enough to share with us some of the inner workings of one of BitTorrent’s greatest success stories. Not to be missed; we’ve got some interesting info, exclusive stats & history, and what’s in store for the future of TorrentLeech.

The Dominating Trackers - Part 3: Best General / 0Day

November 20, 2009 by sharky

In our Part I on scene trackers, we conclude that most torrenters can easily attain the majority of scene releases provided by the Top Three. Each being somewhat different in what they provide, but collectively they’re invaluable assets for an overall portrayal of scene content. While scene is the standard, there’s also a wide appeal for non-scene (P2P) content found on general/0day trackers. In fact, the most popular trackers aren’t ’scene’ at all - which brings us to our list of the Top Three general trackers for 0day, scene & P2P releases.

The Dominating Private Trackers - Part I - The Best of The Best

November 13, 2009 by sharky

Here at FSF we review countless new trackers, but it’s about time we took a look into the oldskoolers to pay homage to the dominating trackers. You know the sites we’re talking about: ScT, SCC & GFT - to name the top three - as well as TV, RTT, TL, TiT and other contenders such as CT, DH, HT and more. These trackers are without a doubt the founding fathers of modern-day private BitTorrent, responsible for dozens of spinoffs and new projects - and even provide content to sites like IPT, BitSoup & Demonoid. We tip our hat to these great communities!

TopBytes, DigitalHive, LastTorrents & TopHos - Open for Signup

November 10, 2009 by sharky

4 trackers; 57,787 torrents. As luck would have it, all four of these great private trackers are open for signup at the same time. TopHos, normally closed to public signups isn’t just a tracker, it’s a community! TopBytes recently did some major housecleaning and re-opened registration today. DigitalHive is often underrated, but is a good scene tracker not to be overlooked (just a few signup spots left). LastTorrents is a tracker to compete with IPT, TL and the likes, and lists more than 27K torrents.

Vizz.tv Exposed - A Review of the $24 TV Tracker

November 05, 2009 by sharky

Here’s one tracker you won’t be finding invitations floating around for, and that’s Vizz.tv. As many already know, this new TV tracker only offers membership through a $24 yearly fee. As luck would have it, we were fortunate enough to find a subscriber who granted us unconditional access. Presenting the Net’s first (and only) review of Vizz.tv, in which we explore if Vizz really lives up to the hype.

Spurious ‘PEG Topsite’ Becomes a Tracker Reality

October 23, 2009 by sharky

Nothing sets off the private torrent community into a frenzy quite like the mention of a new l33t secret tracker. Many will probably remember old news about PEG. Supposedly PEG was a topsite in the style of a TBDev tracker, where members received direct web/FTP access to the fastest and latest scene releases - ratio free, naturally. Of course, all of this was just an elaborate hoax. However, the perpetrators of this fabrication have gone on to create the real PEG tracker.

10 Reasons for The Decline of Tracker Invite Requests

October 14, 2009 by sharky

The facts are in: Numerically, requests for tracker invitations are much in decline compared to what they were a year ago - even though there are more private trackers and more torrent forums than ever before. But does this mean that there are fewer people opting for private? Not at all. Private trackers as a whole are experiencing explosive growth, year after year. So, why have invite requests for private trackers decreased substantially from just 12 months ago? There are several pivotal reasons for this phenomenon.

Web-based Private Tracker Pretimes and Torrent Races at Trac3.me

October 11, 2009 by sharky

There’s a new PreDB website that not only offers a comprehensive listing of new scene releases, but also shows Traces - or torrent races. Introducing Trac3.me, a collaborated effort from the pros at APNet and ScnSrc. Trac3.me, also known as Trace, is a service similar to other PreDBs - but with an interesting twist. Not only are scene releases indexed in the thousands, but also displayed are the private trackers who pick up each release and their associated pretimes.

ScienceHD, The Science Tracker now Open For Signups

September 22, 2009 by sharky

It’s been nearly 5 months since ScienceHD.info bestowed the scene with science-related torrents. This rapidly-growing Gazelle tracker has one of the most active dev teams in all of BitTorrent, and has really evolved into something to behold. Innovative, feature-rich and jammed with content - if there was an award for most improved tracker, SciHD would win in a landslide. And for the first time in more than 4 months, the ScienceHD crew has decided to open up registration for a limited time:

UPDATE: Sept. 30 - Public registration is now closed.

Private Trackers With the Most Torrents

September 19, 2009 by sharky

It’s indisputable that most public torrent indexers will offer more torrents than any one individual private tracker. However, if you added up all the private torrents in existence, and compared the stats to what public trackers have to offer (taking into consideration for redundancy and dead torrents of both) private trackers collectively will win in an overwhelming landslide. For example IsoHunt, which boasts an incredible 3.7 million ‘active’ torrents; impressive as it may seem, still pales in comparison to the number of torrents available on just 20 of the top private trackers combined. Here’s a list of 13 private trackers that have the most torrents overall.

The All-new Torrents Open Registrations Checker

April 04, 2009 by sharky

Looking for a great “live” solution to accurately assist in finding private trackers that are open for signups? After months of heavy development, Team Roots has finally launched a new, speedier (and vastly improved) version of TORC - the Torrents Open Registrations Checker v1.26. TORC has it all - a great list of current trackers; filtering options; tracker icons; detailed view; and, of course - automatic timed & repeat checking of selected private trackers to see if they’re open for direct signups.

The 7 BitTorrent Clients Allowed On Private Trackers

March 07, 2009 by sharky

Most private trackers have similar rules in regards to which BitTorrent clients are considered safe to use - or allowable - on their tracker, and the use of anything else can quite easily lead to the dreaded banhammer. Collectively, trackers don’t tend to agree on one amalgamated master list of supported BT clients, as individual trackers have their own set of rules for what’s allowed and what’s not. An example of this is TL & RevolutionTT which both allow BitComet, whereby most private trackers outright ban this client. HDBits.org, on the contrary, only allows six different clients. However, we feel this is about the ’safest’ list of BitTorrent clients you can find.

Torify.eu - Search & Browse Multiple Private Trackers

February 08, 2009 by sharky

Last month, we reported about berrypi.com, the Internet’s first publicly-available private tracker metasearch website. Now we introduce Torify.eu - a Web 2.0-style next-gen search engine for your private trackers that does much more than just search the sites that you’re logged in to. In fact, Torify displays a list of the indexed torrents for your chosen trackers - all in the same window.

A List of No Ratio Trackers, And The Ratio Free System

February 04, 2009 by sharky

The premise behind a ‘no ratio’ or ‘ratio free’ tracker is to promote a higher level of voluntary seeding and an increased number of long-term seeds, without enforcing a mandatory minimum upload data requirement. Simply put, "no ratio" is just that: members are not obligated to seed to the golden rule of a 1:1 requirement; neither globally nor on a per-torrent basis. If all this sounds too good to be true, then what’s the catch? Won’t users just hit & run the torrents? Not if you want to keep the account, you won’t. The trackers listed below are no-ratio sites, along with the benefits and drawbacks to the ratio-free torrent system.
