Active List of FTP Dump Sites For Warez And Music

March 31, 2009 by sharky

FTP, being one of the oldest methods of filesharing still in active duty, continues to be the preferred protocol for sceners, fillers and couriers providing & sharing the freshest 0day/0sec warez. With private BitTorrent, one must worry about maintaining a good sharing ratio. Usenet costs extra money for premium quality access and retention. eMule employs annoying wait times; even RapidShare downloads are queued & limited for free users. But none of this applies to FTP - it’s a leecher’s paradise.

But what is difficult for aspiring FTP users is to find available, working FTP sites to connect to. That is, until now. Here’s a list of FTP sites that are currently open (at the time of post), including an excellent 0day site, seen here:

uTorrent: How To Reseed TV Season Torrents Using Previously Downloaded Episodes

March 17, 2009 by sharky

Maintaining a good ratio at BitMeTV can be arduous, especially for those who don’t own a seedbox. Even TVTorrents.com is tricky for new users, since there’s a minimum 1:1 ratio on the site, making it rather difficult to get started. Here’s how to seed (reseed) downloaded individual TV episodes to season packs, even if you’ve changed the paths and/or names of the files.

This tip is explained in two segments, depending on whether the previously downloaded TV episodes are the same name & location, or not. We explain how this works from torrents from public trackers; or if you only have a few episodes of a particular season, in which you’ll become a partial seeder.

Music Torrents Not Seeding Properly? Blame iTunes

March 14, 2009 by sharky

iTunes just isn’t torrent-friendly. Importing or playing back your music files directly from a seeding torrent into a media player that alters ID3 tags or metadata can cause them to stop seeding. If otherwise healthy torrents are now getting stuck anywhere from 91-99% (or worse, at 0%), prompting you to redownload the files - most likely the culprit is iTunes. Even if you didn’t manually change the properties or tags on an MP3 file, iTunes may happen to be set up to do this automatically, thus altering the files and causing tracker seeding errors.

It works through your existing BitTorrent client by reporting inaccurate upload and download stats to the tracker, thus boosting your ratio. Hey, at the very least you’ll go out with a good ratio, before finding yourself unable to login.

March 10, 2009 by sharky

The 7 BitTorrent Clients Allowed On Private Trackers

March 07, 2009 by sharky

Most private trackers have similar rules in regards to which BitTorrent clients are considered safe to use - or allowable - on their tracker, and the use of anything else can quite easily lead to the dreaded banhammer. Collectively, trackers don’t tend to agree on one amalgamated master list of supported BT clients, as individual trackers have their own set of rules for what’s allowed and what’s not. An example of this is TL & RevolutionTT which both allow BitComet, whereby most private trackers outright ban this client. HDBits.org, on the contrary, only allows six different clients. However, we feel this is about the ’safest’ list of BitTorrent clients you can find.

Forum News - P2PTalk Closes, Digital Raider Launches

March 06, 2009 by sharky

Regrettably, one of the original pioneers of the P2P & BitTorrent chat/invites scene folded up shop earlier this week. P2PTalk.org is no more, which came as a complete surprise to its members, including here at FSF (we’ve got the inside scoop). Not to worry, the P2PTalk team has rebounded with a new P2P/tracker discussion board called Digital Raider.

Discordia Takes Over ‘Lphant’ P2P Domain; Now Owns Shareaza, BearShare, Lphant & iMesh.com

March 05, 2009 by sharky

Anti-P2P group Discordia Ltd., who made headlines in late 2007 with the controversial commandeering of Shareaza’s official domain, has now surreptitiously acquired Lphant. Discordia began with takeovers of BearShare.com & iMesh.com - and most notably Shareaza.com - evidently their slick tactics are again at work with the recent acquisition of Lphant.com.

While the Lphant peer-to-peer program was never a well-known client among giants such as BearShare, Shareaza and even iMesh - but by right it certainly has (or had) it’s own userbase. Obviously this conquest comes at little cost to Discordia for a domain of such little importance nowadays; perhaps the point is irrelevant. For years now, peer-to-peer users have been shying away from these all-in-one applications in favor of a more efficient, trustworthy distributed network known as BitTorrent.

March 04, 2009 by sharky

[Disclaimer - experienced private tracker users, hide your eyes]. Looking at traffic statistics for torrent sites, one could only correctly surmise that the vast majority of torrenters are still steadfastly using public trackers such as Mininova and The Pirate Bay. And when it comes to movies, only one name generates a gigantic buzz for the latest film releases - and that’s aXXo - Hollywood’s reviled nemesis.

FSF Tracker Watch - March 2009 Edition

March 03, 2009 by sharky

Demonoid issues a warning about trojans in their torrents (could this really be possible?!); Waffles warns about OVH seedboxes due to hidden tracking software. Also, we’ve found some bad torrents that are so obvious even a small child would avoid them, and a really lame ‘TorrentLeech Seedbox’ YouTube password/account phishing scam that we busted as a complete fake.

Blog Races - Tracking ‘Release Blogs’ & Scene Releases

March 02, 2009 by sharky

One thing about IRC: You never know what you’re going to discover. Most private torrenters have already heard about IRC tracer channels (specifically #trace & #tracers), which log and keep track of torrent races among popular trackers competing for the best pretimes. Well now there’s a new IRC network that covers releases from prominent ‘release blogs’ - what could be more original! #brace (Blog Race) is a new project that tracks several release blogs and how fast they post about scene releases. It uses the same engine as #trace, which tracks torrent sites.
