PirateFTP Selling Leech Slots For Scene Releases

May 30, 2009 by sharky

Under normal circumstances we wouldn’t advocate for P2L (pay2leech) sites; everything you’ll ever need to download is freely available on torrent trackers. But if you have a little extra money to burn, or aren’t able to use the BitTorrent protocol - PirateFTP can be your alternative to getting the freshest 0sec scene releases. PirateFTP is a scene FTP dumpsite (think: "topsite") that sells unlimited access leech slots for about the same cost as a moderate seedbox. All without having to worry about seeding and ratio.

SoftMP3 & SweDVDR Trackers Release ‘Source Code’

May 23, 2009 by sharky

In the wake of ThePirateBay trial and subsequent aftermath related to the risks of hosting a BitTorrent tracker in Sweden (or, even being a denizen and hosting it elsewhere), most major Nordic private trackers have now all but complied with AntiPiratByran. However, two such trackers are having the last laugh - SweDVDR and SoftMP3 have willfully made their tracker source code available for anyone who wishes to set up their own tracker. Just don’t do it in Sweden.

Ironically, the source code for both trackers is publicly available on BitTorrent.

Awesome-HD: The Latest Gazelle Tracker

May 23, 2009 by sharky

EuReKA, a once-popular internal encoder for Bit-HDTV, has now migrated Awesome-HD over to become the first HD-only Gazelle tracker - and it looks better than ever! If you were a former member of the old Awesome-HD, you’ll want to check your email account for an invite, as it expires after just 3 days. Existing tracker members were invited to the new digs (about 6,000 original former members were notified via email), and all will receive 50 GB upload credit and 3 invites to compensate for lost ratio on old accounts.

ThePirateSociety is Back Online, And Open For Signups

May 11, 2009 by sharky

Back on April 28th, ThePirateSociety teamed up with FSF to offer open registration - in which more than 1,200 new members joined the site. As bad luck would have it, at the same time TPS ran into an issue with their hosting provider ServerBeach who deemed the popular torrent forum to be against their ToS. Heaven forbid a site be allowed to discuss piracy & torrents (but not actually link to them). After nearly a week of downtime; indeed TPS now had some major scrambling to do in order to find another host for the site - and in the meanwhile all new members who registered during the promotion have been wiped out. (We’ve got the whole story.)

In any event, TPS is now again open for registration to those who previously signed up, as well as anyone else looking to get in on the torrent discussion action:

May 11, 2009 by sharky

"Bibliotik is a tracker for ebooks, comics, audiobooks, magazines and scholarly articles and journals - think library. As you’ll soon notice, we stand apart from other torrent sites in this way: We’re an online Library." The premise behind the idea for a Library Tracker was not new to the creators of Bibliotik.org, who’ve been working on the project for several months. After being in beta mode for several weeks, Bibliotik is now ready to open it’s doors to the waiting masses.

InviteNation Returns to the Torrent Invites BT Scene

May 09, 2009 by sharky

Yearning for a new torrent community to find invites & private tracker chat? After a somewhat lengthy downtime Invite Nation has returned as version 2.0 - and looks better than ever. Invite-Nation first began back in March 2007 but ran into some funding and database problems earlier this year. The site & forum went through a complete overhaul recently (and a new domain) and current members mostly consist of mods, admins and VIPs from the old site - and has finally decided to go semi-public.

Test Your ISP for Traffic Shaping with ShaperProbe

May 07, 2009 by sharky

There are good ISPs and then there are bad ISPs. A good ISP will allow you to virtually max out your Internet connection speed for any online activity including P2P/BitTorrent transfers. It’s no secret that bad ISPs - such as Bell Canada & its wholesale partners, are known to limit transfer rates to as little as 30 KB/s from 4PM - 2AM, essentially crippling many Internet apps for up to 10 hours each day. You pay top dollars to your provider for Internet access, yet can’t even use it to 10% capacity during the time when you need it the most - when you’re actually sitting in front of the PC. These practices are commonly considered to be net neutrality violations by ISPs.

The solution? Switch providers. But how do you know for certain that your ISP is meddling with your torrent transfers? Aside from the obvious clue that download speeds come to a crashing halt during peak-times, or seeding is all but impossible - there’s a clever new way to test your ISP for throttling & rate-limiting with the DiffProbe ShaperProbe utility.

SwePred - The Next Big Swedish Tracker?

May 02, 2009 by sharky

With over 20 (and counting) Nordic trackers that have either willfully gone offline or removed all of their torrents, it comes as a complete surprise as to why any new torrent tracker would want to be connected with Sweden. It would appear that brand-new SwePred.org aims to be such a tracker, but it isn’t without controversy. The revolution has begun - or is this just another beginning for a tracker already doomed for the same demise as its predecessors - evidently only time will tell.
