NewSceneFiles Calls it Quits; SceneFlux Picks up the Slack

Sad news indeed for those who enjoy browsing automated scene-to-direct download links - NewSceneFiles has recently announced they’ve closed the service. After 7½ months and more than 56,000 releases, NSF quickly became became a popular replacement for SceneDDL/XLDR in amongst the scene-DDL circuit. All is not lost, however - there’s another automated DDL site that aims to be even better than NSF/SceneDDL/XLDR - SceneFlux.net.

Featured Userscript: ‘Better Comment Link Extractor’

The brand-new better comment link extractor userscript is a slight (but mighty) variation of the recently updated ‘comment link extractor‘ script. Intended for those who frequently visit scene/release blogs, BCLE works by adding a yellow "Download Links" bar underneath each blog post in which filehoster direct download links posted in the comments are made easily accessible. Once installed, blog readers do not need to "click in" on individual posts to view commenters’ links, or weed through useless (and often cluttered) comments.

Gygan - A New App For Sharing Large Files Online

It’s rare that we’ll go out of our way to review new "P2P" programs, but Gygan is definitely a filesharing application worthy of a closer inspection. Gygan is a brand-new Windows app for sharing and sending large files quickly - users can upload & download any file size & type, as many files as you want, and get unlimited transfer speed (even for free users!). There’s a lot to cover here, but Gygan might just be the next-gen breakthrough in which how files are shared.

RapidShare Killers: A Review of the Hottest New Filehosters

Whether it be on release blogs, warez forums, or anywhere else on the ‘net - it’s unanimous that RapidShare links are everywhere. Few can deny that RS continues to reign as king of the filehosters - but there’s some serious new competition aiming to dethrone this behemoth 1-click hoster. According to Alexa: just 12 months ago RapidShare was poised at the #10 spot among most-visited websites; RS has now slipped to #31 and continues to slide. Small potatoes? Not in the business of filehosters it isn’t, where mad dollars are at stake. One thing that is certain - you can bet that the RS team is sweating over these new startups below that are vying for a piece of the filehosting pie.

ZeroSec Future Grim - Closure Is Imminent, Expected

The days are numbered for ZeroSec, once billed as the number 2 release blog second only to RlsLog.net. The new owners had but two avenues to traverse for the future of the blog: either keep the status quo; or else tank the site beyond all repair. After a series of blunders which can only be described as sheer lunacy on the part of the new proprietors, there’s little doubt that ZeroSec will come to a crashing halt, and soon. Abandoned by editors, readers and commenters - little else remains except for a quick death of this once-popular release site.

DDLDB - Direct Download Links DB For Scene Releases

Release blogs, warez forums and DDL indexers have certainly captured a wide audience for those who seek out scene/P2P releases found on filehosters. Under the best circumstances, it still remains a manual task for staff & uploaders to grab scene releases from various sources (leech FTPs, dumpsites, scene trackers) in order to post them to blogs & forums. But there’s one cool trend that we’re seeing more of lately; websites that post scene releases straight to direct download links. DDLDB.com is one such brand new pre-to-DDL service that DDL fans should find very handy - we’ll explain why.

ZeroSec Sold to New Owners, Site Falling Apart?

ReeGed, the founding member of ZeroSec.ws and one the original 7 that defected from RlsLog.net nearly 18 months ago, announced a few days ago that ZeroSec has been sold to an unnamed buyer. More likely than not, this was the last nail in the coffin for a release blog that’s already been struggling lately to keep up with the scene. In addition to ReeGed, two other key ZS admins have also stepped down - and in fact all three admins have now been locked out of the site. It all goes downhill after that (no fault to ReeGed & Co), as new popup ads will surely repulse even the most devout readers. Somewhere nearby, Martin is silently smirking.
