In this March ‘09 edition, we review 32 new private trackers - most are open for signup. Demonoid issues a warning about trojans in their torrents (could this really be possible?!); Waffles warns about OVH seedboxes due to hidden tracking software. Also, we’ve found some bad torrents that are so obvious even a small child would avoid them, and a really lame ‘TorrentLeech Seedbox’ YouTube password/account phishing scam that we busted as a complete fake.
Bad Torrents at Demonoid? That’s Crazy Talk.
Yep, if Demonoid announces it on their homepage, then it must be true. Apparently some of their movie torrents are misleading members into installing malware disguised as some DRM-type thing. Yeah, DRM sucks - but not this badly. There’s no word on whether the torrents were tracked by Demonoid, or if they were external sources from… other public sites.
Bad Torrents Everywhere Else…
Here are a few screenshots of some really nasty torrents. Or, it’s just a glitch in the tracker - you be the judge.
This one was found on RevoTT - that’s a lot of leechers:
…and Mininova users wonder why their torrents are so slow:
This one - which still exists at Mininova, shows a 388 KB movie for "The Dark Knight". Or else it’s a nasty executable file (.exe) which probably has nothing to do with a movie.
Another Mininova gem: Note the part in the torrent title - **Fast Seeding** - with just 2 seeds and 1,254 leechers. We’re certain this is a misnomer for how this torrent will behave.
OVH Takes a Second-helping Of Bad PR
Probably the most popular seedbox provider around, OVH is now playing big brother with your torrents? It’s more than a possibility, according to Waffles.fm & a zillion other sources. Word is, OVH has been installing monitoring software on their seedboxes (er, servers) through a backdoor. Some suggest this has possibly been happening for years - however; they made no effort to make clients aware of the backdoor or software installed.
Thankfully, it’s to fix your OVH seedbox by editing /root/.ssh/authorized_keys2 and removing the lines that start with:
- from="213.186.50.100"
- from="::ffff:213.186.50.100"
next edit /etc/crontab and remove */1 * * * * root /usr/local/rtm/bin/rtm 10 > /dev/null 2> /dev/null
then rm -rf /usr/local/rtm
‘TorrentLeech Seeding’ - TL Account Phishing Scam Busted
If it’s on YouTube, it has to be correct, right? Wrong. This guy fails on so many levels. First of all, if you watch closely, he hacked the screenshot to show that he has a 0.643 ratio, when in fact it’s 2.643 (88.47 GB uploaded divided by 33.47 GB downloaded is not 0.643).
Second, he’s loading a torrent from ThePirateBay, not Torrentleech. If you look at the 0:24 second mark of the clip, it clearly shows this exact torrent:
If you have a YouTube account, go and bust this dude with a comment.
Newest Torrent Trackers…
General / Miscellaneous Trackers:
• InvestingTorrents.com — New economics tracker that focuses on torrents for equities, forex, commodities and money management. Not much going on, though - there’s just 35 active torrents.
• www.700m.bz — A Gazelle movie tracker which we already wrote about here is 700MBz, which now lists over 375 movie torrents. Still open for signups.
• http://torrentrush.info — A new general tracker with 257 active torrents (100 of which are games). One unique idea that we noticed is: torrents that are seeded in a seedbox are marked by a spinning star. There’s also a column on the main browse page for "Sc" which means a ’scene release’.
• Biberona.com — Biberona is a new Bulgarian/English tracker for ‘general’ content - currently lists 700 torrents. Incorporates a seedbonus system (1 point per seeding hour).
• www.nowarez.se — Nowarez Torrents is a newer general tracker that we previously overlooked. With more than 560 active torrents - about two-thirds of these are for appz and OSes (operating system) releases. If you’re into applications, this tracker’s definitely worth checking out.
• http://super-ip.co.uk — Don’t be distracted by the weak URL name - Super-Inferno lists over 1,700 torrents including a decent assortment of scene releases.
• http://the-scene-nation.com — Newer general tracker with 168 torrents.
• http://hot-torrents.org — New Romanian/English tracker with 167 total torrents.
• http://www.qfiles.org — QFiles is a sharp-looking new tracker - too bad the active torrent count sits at nilch when we last checked.
Music Trackers:
• http://btsound.net — BTSound is a newer Russian/English music tracker. All content is in WavPack lossless audio format (*.wv files) - you won’t find these on What.cd or Waffles. Stats: 1078 members and 460 torrents. Open for signups.
• www.bestfriends.hu — BeMusic, a tracker with 452 torrents, offers music for both Hungarian & English releases.
• http://toxicj.net — ToxicJ is a new Japanese ‘Gazelle’ tracker with ~100 torrents, also has some Korean releases. Open for signups.
• www.reggaetraders.net — New Reggae music tracker. Currently only open for registration with a valid invite code.
HD (High Definition) Trackers:
• http://chdbits.org (China) — at last check, Classic High Definition was not open for new signups.
• http://high-def.virtualplace.ro — Brand-new HD tracker, lists just 67 active torrents. Most of the content is x264 encodes.
• http://awesome-hd.com — 3,000 users and 120 active torrents. Awesome-HD is a tracker & forum brought to us by EuReKA (ex-BitHDTV encoder) - the tracker is loaded with his releases, and only non-scene encodes are allowed here. Sometimes open for signup, sometimes not. Currently, yes.
• https://private.hidef-zone.com (French) — You’ll have to jump through a few hoops to sign up (you first request an invite code, then signup; then you have to agree twice to their ToS). Then, you’ll notice there’s only 70 active torrents (but the site is well-organized, and all accounts come with 10 GB upload credit to start).
Kids & Animation Trackers:
• www.fox-kids.info — New tracker for kids’ releases (mostly animated TV shows & series’). 643 members and 220 active torrents. Fox-Kids has an impressive selection of old / hard-to-find items (80’s, 90’s and retro).
• Mazysnuthouse.org — While not specifically a kids tracker, the majority of their 330 offered torrents pertain to children’s TV shows, movies and similar content. Signups are currently open, and everything on the site is freeleech until March 30th.
• www.torrentkids.org — TorrentKids.org is a relaunch (new domain) of the old Humour-me.org tracker. Currently there’s 311 torrents and 531 members. Content ranges from family movies to comics, but most of their torrents pertain to kids TV releases. Some nice packs/seasons, too!
• http://torrentkids.net — A new tracker for kids’ games (both educational and entertainment), TV shows, movies. I think this site has every single animated Disney movie ever made. Currently lists 118 active torrents.
International/Mixed Trackers:
• www.daemonstreet.com — A French tracker with more than 6,200 torrents. A huge amount of activity can be found at DaemonStreet; this tracker’s becoming wildly popular.
• http://feel-free.ro — This Romanian tracker flew under our radar: 4,759 members and 1,387 torrents, including some nice packs & over 70 PC game ISO releases. Signups are currently open.
• http://realtorrent.info (Polish) — A general tracker that carries over 1,500 torrents. Not all that new, though - RealTorrent has been around since June, 2008. TIP: When signing up, leave these two fields empty:
• http://romanianfile.info — Interestingly, there’s a whopping 9 torrents on the tracker - and all of them are "0" seeds (aka - dead). Has quite a unique layout, though - if only they could add some content.
• http://torrents.su (Russian) — Both a tracker & a forum - currently lists 123 torrents.
• http://beload.hu — The new URL for Moobs & Speedfire tracker (moobs.hu).
• www.mytorrent.tv/tracker/ — Popular German tracker; signups are currently closed.
• www.evolution-network.ws — New Hungarian tracker - currently not open for signups.
• www.silver-tor.org (Dutch) — Why do all these Dutch trackers look exactly the same? Anyways, Silver-Tor is a newer tracker that has nearly 900 torrents. Another Dutch tracker that appears identical is www.rocky-tor.org.
• www.nordicscene.net — A new Nordic/English tracker with over 3,000 members. Currently, there’s just 109 active torrents. Content is strong, though - there’s DVDRs, HD releases & custom Swesubs.
• http://www.medbit.ru — MEDBit is an interesting Russian tracker that focuses on medical-related torrents (eBooks, anatomy, models) - currently lists 73 torrents.
