TopBytes, DigitalHive, LastTorrents & TopHos - Open for Signup

November 10, 2009 by sharky

4 trackers; 57,787 torrents. As luck would have it, all four of these great private trackers are open for signup at the same time. TopHos, normally closed to public signups isn’t just a tracker, it’s a community! TopBytes recently did some major housecleaning and re-opened registration today. DigitalHive is often underrated, but is a good scene tracker not to be overlooked (just a few signup spots left). LastTorrents is a tracker to compete with IPT, TL and the likes, and lists more than 27K torrents.

TopHos.org

It’s somewhat odd to find Tophos.org open for registration; this is one site that apparently values their privacy (or at least they used to, although it seems clear they’ve had an about-face on this recently). Some might remember a certain spat on FST in reference to a TopHos tracker review, for that we won’t chance it and publish any screenshots. Their rules clearly stipulate, "Do not attempt to post reviews for Tophos on public forums". The good news is; FSF isn’t a forum.

Community: Having been around for years, TopHos possesses a true community-feel to it. Forums are extremely active (and humorous), most popular torrents have a lot of user comments & feedback, and there’s a shitlist of banned members (you’ll find it) that will have you roaring with laughter.

Content: Considered a scene tracker, TopHos has two distinct browse pages (one for regular content) and one for "spam" which includes scene MP3s, XXX 0day, Appz, etc - most of which are freeleech.

  • Name/URL: TopHos, TH, The Ho’s, Top Ho’s - www.tophos.org
  • Signup URL: http://www.tophos.org/signup.php
  • # of Torrents: 9,300+
  • # of Members: unknown (site stats are unavailable)
  • Oldest Torrent: 2007-01-12
  • Seed Requirements: Relaxed - "you should seed each torrent to at least 0.50 or for 6 hrs", although global ratios are different.
  • IRC: Main channel only available to members. Help channel at #tophos.support. Also has a channel where new uploads are announced, and a games/trivia channel.

TopBytes.net

TopBytes.net is a relative newcomer to the scene, being online since January. They had a bit of a meltdown with the database but re-launched as v2.0 in June, so basically this was a clean start to the tracker. This scene/general tracker has some decent pretimes, and torrents can be arranged to show the releases with the best times.

TopBytes has a clean, sleek layout with torrents available in two sections (regular browse page) and a 0day page for less-popular releases such as appz, music etc. Everything on the site is currently set to freeleech for the next 2 days or so.

Other Features: Has a cool DJ Radio program; arcade; advanced user-profile settings; different stylesheets; customized layout.

DigitalHive.org

Thinking about signing up to DigitalHive? - you might want to act fast on this one since there’s only about 160 slots left until they close registration. DigitalHive is an impressive (yet often overlooked) scene/0day tracker but also has a few specialty user-uploaded torrents and nifty TV/Movie Packs (all of which are freeleech). All new accounts start out with 5 GB upload credit, and 680 freeleech torrents make it a snap for everyone to maintain a good sharing ratio.

Online for well over 3 years now, DH continues to put some impressive numbers in regards to pretimes and overall torrent races, with in excess of 100 torrents added to the tracker on any given day. Few realize that DH’s strongpoint is in their TV sections, as roughly half of their entire torrent inventory are for scene TV releases. There’s even a handy TV Episodes link that’s updated daily which lists upcoming episodes from popular series’.

LastTorrents.org

Last (but not least) is LastTorrents. This is the old bittorrents.ro, the biggest tracker from Romania, which became international three months ago as LastTorrents.org. An ingenious browsing system unseen anywhere else, cool staff, nice design and over 27,000 torrents make LastTorrents a winner.

Browsing System: By default, the browse page launches to the "Last 10 Days" section, whereby torrents here are only available to Power Users and up. Members become PU after uploading 25 GB with a ratio better than 1.05 (no time restriction on this, promotion is automatic when conditions are met regardless of how long you’ve been a member). All other torrent sections (Freeleech, Old Torrents, Ro Subbed, and XXX) are available to all members, which make up for 97% of all content on the tracker.
