DKF - A New Torrent Forum, Now Accepting Applicants

December 24, 2009 by sharky

We can’t give out much information about DKF (aka - The DarK Factory) aside from they’re a new tracker invites & discussion forum. Online for just over a month now, DKF has plenty of activity (threads: 374, posts: 4,179) - all from just 60 experienced members. Don’t expect DKF to open up for public registration anytime soon - either you’ll need to be invited directly, or else apply through their IRC channel.

DKF Application

DKF is only recruiting new members through a short IRC interview.

Server: irc.station51.net
Channel: #Interview (hotlink here)

1.) To apply for an invite, read the topic. Currently it says, "State your favorite BitTorrent client and wait to be interviewed" - this will signal that you’re looking for an invite.

2.) You’ll be asked some questions about your BitTorrent knowledge & history, so come prepared. While unofficial, questions that might be asked in the interview may include:

  • • What do you know about DKF?
  • • What do you want from DKF?
  • • What can you provide DKF with? (e.g. GFX, coding, reviews, etc.)
  • • Will you be active on DKF (IRC, forums, etc)?
  • • Are you a staff member at an invite forum or tracker? If so, where?
  • • Are you at other invite forums? If so, provide profile links.
  • • Have you ever been banned from a forum?
  • • How experienced are you with torrents?
  • • Give us profile links to at least 3 trackers that are your favorites. Tell us why they’re your favorite.

DKF - The Last Word…

It’s great to see torrent boards that screen potential members before allowing them to register, as opposed to allowing anyone in and then forcing them to make certain "post quotas" which just leads to increased spam throughout the forum - in turn, deteriorating the experience for everyone. "IRC interviews" are not much fun for those on duty, contrary to popular belief - but are becoming necessary to weed out those who will eventually become banned regardless.

If you’re accepted through the IRC interview (and become a member of DKF), then there’s not much else that’s necessary to "prove". Thus, all forums are pretty much accessible to anyone who’s a member - with the exception of "requests" which requires a post-count of 25 - quite easy to meet.

We don’t want to be the bearer of bad news; but nowadays if any torrent forum is directly open to registration, it only invites (pardon the pun) a certain subset of private torrenters who ruin it for everyone else. Scammers, cheaters, traders - they jump from one to the next. Indeed, DKF is a forum worth joining - and staying with.
