No, this article isn’t about a P2L tracker. Those of you who’ve been around the private tracker scene long enough probably remember the original StN (sharing-the.net), a tracker discussion forum that went underground nearly a year ago. Comparable to other secretive (some will say "elite") BT communities that you may or may not have heard about (CFS, Panda, I-C/Indigo), StN - though small - is very much alive and rife with activity, and now accepting applications.
For this review, FSF was not permitted to take screenshots of the forum or publish sensitive info such as the URL. At the request of StN staff, comments are closed (to prevent flaming and to avoid confusion with StN the tracker).
About StN:
Unless you happen to already be one of their 125 members, chances are you know very little about StN. Finding an invitation to StN isn’t just hard to come by; it’s next to impossible. Signups are never open (and never will be) and only staff, VIPs and Elites are able to invite new members - and are of course responsible for whom they invite. Even their URL has changed more than once over the past year.
Stats — Having been around for 2+ years, StN is not a new forum. Threads: 1,240 | Posts: 15,549 | Members: 125 | Banned: 14
StN is a family — StN is unlike any other forum, unique in the fact that they’re truly a family. StN contains some of the best members of the BT community. The site chatbox is one of the popular hotspots of the site, in addition to their private IRC channel.
No GAs/Reqs/Reviews — There are no invite giveaways, no requests, and no tracker reviews. If your intentions are to join StN looking for an exclusive invite to F** trackers or anywhere else, you’ll be disappointed. This was not always the case, but a decision was made to drive users to focus on the community of StN, instead of being a community based on giving/getting invites (there are enough places for that, as it is). However, there is an active tracker recruitment thread, which is the only place on the board where one can find invitations.
No N00bs — This is not a place for n00bs (hence the no giveaways); it is assumed that most members are already well-established in the tracker world. StN is more inclined towards tracker discussion, and has these sub-forums available - (Tracker Talk/News, Seedboxes/Dedis, Opinion, Tutorials, P2P News, etc).
StN & Trackers — Since there are no GAs or Reqs, members can feel safe to discuss just about anything - security is a non-issue. StN has the utmost respect for private trackers; and staff/recruiters are more than welcome to join (read more on this below).
Donations — Money isn’t a problem; members will never receive PMs asking for donations.
Extras — StN has monthly raffles & prize draws, free seedbox offers (to qualifying members) and other perks. There is no ‘rep system’ on StN, but there are some specific user classes (mostly this is based upon # of posts/days on site). Special classes (VIPs & Elites) are able to access the special forums.
StN Application:
For the first time ever, StN has opened an email application system for aspiring members who wish to join this great community. (Note: If you are tracker staff or a representative that can provide an official recruitment thread, you are welcome at StN - simply send an email to the address below for more details). Anyone else looking to join should fill out this short application form, answering the following questions. Be advised that traders/scammers are not welcome, and this will be thoroughly checked beforehand.
1. Please provide usernames, profile links to trackers, and any torrent community accounts that you feel comfortable with supplying. Your information will remain 100% private.
2. Where do you hang out? (which trackers, forums and IRC’s)
3. Are you close to, or associated with, any trackers (staff) or invite forums? If so, which ones? (Note: Withholding information, especially in this area is grounds for immediate account removal).
4. Why do you want to join StN?
5. What do you think you can contribute to the StN community?
6. How active are you in the torrent community (donations, forums, IRC etc)?
7. Have you ever been banned from a tracker? If so, explain.
8. How long have you used BitTorrent?
9. What do you do with yourself outside of torrenting?
10. How old are you?
If your email application gets chosen we will send you an invite, or else ask for further info! Please send to STN.APPS[at]gmail.com
