Unzbin - A New (Tiny) Usenet NZB Application

A common misconception about Usenet is that it’s an overly complicated filesharing protocol with a high learning curve. Although NZB technology has simplified the Usenet experience considerably, it’s true that many newsreaders are painfully sophisticated. Simplistic Settings:

When running Unzbin for the first time, you’ll be prompted to enter your Usenet account details into the program. Most of the options below don’t need further clarification; these areas are pretty much self-explanatory. By default, the automated processes are already enabled (see below).

  • • Validate / repair — This allows Unzbin to utilize the PAR/PAR2 files to repair and validate the archives.
  • • Unpack — This option enables Unzbin to unrar (extract) the archives after the validation & repair process.
  • • Prune — When enabled, the "Prune" feature will delete all of the source RARs (and PAR/PAR2 files) after a successful extraction.

Unzbin’s Three Tabs…

Connections — Displays the status of your Usenet account connections.

Parts — This shows the parts within the NZB file; including subject/thread name, source (name) of newsgroup, original poster, segments, age & size of posts, and status (decoded / decoding / downloading).

Console — This is the log file for Unzbin. All processes are reported here including unpack & validation results, user paths and filenames etc.

Unzbin is Automated:

Notable key features that make this an outstanding application: fully automated processes for decoding, validating, repairing & unpacking. Simply import an *.NZB file, and Unzbin will download all the files (including the PARs). Once all the files have been successfully downloaded, Unzbin will repair the files (if necessary) and decode them, and also unpack/extract the RARs. Lastly, these RAR & PAR files are then automatically deleted - leaving you with a folder containing the extracted goodies. What could be easier than than?
