MKV to XVID: Convert Video from MKV (Matroska Video) to XVID (XVID Video) with River Past Video Cleaner.

What is MKV?

Matroska aims to become THE standard of multimedia container formats. It was derived from a project called MCF, but differentiates from it significantly because it is based on EBML (Extensible Binary Meta Language), a binary derivative of XML. EBML enables the Matroska Development Team to gain significant advantages in terms of future format extensibility, without breaking file support in old parsers.

What is XVID?

XviD is the name of a popular video codec being developed as an open source project by volunteer programmers from all over the world. The format was created to offer a free alternative to other commercial video codecs, and despite being open source its quality and efficiency has made it one of the most popular video codecs online. XviD, as a file type, is an AVI file with video encoded with XviD codec.

Additional Requirements:

To convert from MKV (Matroska Video) to XVID (XVID Video) with River Past Video Cleaner, you need to install CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) and XviD Codecs. You may need to install AC-3 Decoder Filter, depending on the particular file.

Launch River Past Video Cleaner
Once River Past Video Cleaner is installed properly, launch Video Cleaner.

Install Matroska Pack

To convert from MKV files, please install CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack), which includes Matroska Splitter 1.1.2.

Matroska Pack 1.1.2 exposes only one audio track and one subtitle track. You can change the preferred track language. Go to “Start | Program Files | Combined Community Codec Pack | Filters | Haali Media Splitter Settings”, select the “Options” tab, then expand “Languages”; node. Change the “Audio language priorities” and “Subtitle language priorities”. For example, use “eng” for English.

Add File

Click on the “Add File” button on the tool bar. The standard file open dialog appears. Select “MKV - Matroska” in its “Files of type” combo box.

Select the file you want to convert and click “Open”. The file will be added to the conversion file list. If you cannot add the file, please make sure CCCP is installed. You may also need other codecs depending on the video and audio compression used to encode the MKV file.

DOWNLOAD River Past Video Cleaner Pro.

Select output format

Use the setting panel on the bottom of the window to control the output format. Click on the toggle to the left of the “Output Format” label to expand the panel. Select “XviD” as the “File Type”.

Note: To convert to Xvid files, you must have XviD Codec installed.

Change Video Settings

Click on the toggle to the left of the “Video Settings” label to expand the panel.

Select “Specify” under “Size” and/or “Frame rate” to enter the video resolution and/or frame rate.

You can change the compressor, quality, size, and frame rate of the video.

Change Audio Settings

Click on the toggle to the left of the “Audio Settings” label to expand the panel.

Select the audio compressor for the conversion. Depending on the compressor, you may also change the sample rate, channel (stereo or mono), bits/sample, and bitrate. Do not use “MPEG Layer-3″ as the audio compressor. It does not work correctly in video files and often causes the conversion to abort in the middle. If you prefer to have MP3 audio in the AVI file, download lame_enc.dll instead.

Select output directory

Expand the “Output Directory” panel. Use the “Browse” button to select an output directory.

Convert

Click the “Convert” button on the tool bar.
