Wondering where StC went? All signs suggest that SaveTheCoratee, a once semi-popular ratioless Mac tracker is dead and not coming back. StC now holds company with the defunct VortexNetwork which went offline earlier this year, leaving the BT world with just one true Mac tracker. Inside information suggests that the Mac OS torrent community is now relying on the true backbone of the scene, and that’s Brokenstones - or is there a new alternative? Perhaps there’s a spinoff tracker for StC refugees after all…
Last night Coratee tweeted "StC is officially closed. I apologize for the lack of warning. There has been a creation of a non-official replacement site. :( & <3". About 2 hours later it was followed by this announcement, "Sorry guys and no we were not shut down. The site just could not be maintained any more :( ".
GoDaddy, the registrar for StC says "this domain name expired on 07/28/2010 and is pending renewal or deletion". Contrary to this, an updated whois suggests that the domain has now been reinstated until the following year (07/29/2011). Not that any of this particularly matters to the future of StC. Renewing your own domain name is always a cheap option, even if the plan is to never host anything on it - with the idea being that no one else can use the domain for future development. A simple tactic, if truthful.
Info, and a new Site ‘Corate.es’
FSF caught wind of the story from a former staffer at StC who had an inside scoop on what was going on. Below are some snippets from the email we received:
"StC is very much dead. Manzana just didn’t want to run the site anymore. It was supposed to be just that - we’d put up a news post, thank all our members for sticking with us, and that would be that. But then redhat and Krakatoa (who was fired from his staff position at StC, a while ago) created Corate.es and started announcing it before our site closed. Manzana was very upset - he didn’t want people using the Coratee name - no affiliation whatsoever with StC if there was to be a new one. Regardless, he’s out of the torrenting scene forever as far as I know."
— So there you have it - http://corate.es. But not so fast…
"But anyway, redhat (who, if I recall correctly, you love after that whole Eargasm.ME incident) and Krakatoa created Corate.es, and didn’t bring over any other StC staff as far as I know (none of the other former staffers even have an account, yet). It’s important to note that Corate.es is NOT StC, it’s an unofficial branch."
— The message continues:
"Anyway, it’s cool if you want to use this for an article or something. I’d actually like that, because the end of StC was so botched that I think most users don’t know what happened. Honestly, I don’t think Corate.es will succeed and would recommend that people go over to BrokenStones."
Corate.es has become its own entity and former members of StC will not be able to login; instead they’ll need to create a new account. At this time, registration is currently not open to the public. More info and future updates can be found on their IRC channel:
- Server: irc.corate.es
- Port: 6667
- Channel: #corate.es

Update: I’ll attempt to contact Corate.es staff as to get to the bottom of what ‘really’ happened. Stay tuned.
