Expect some fresh ideas & very big things from the talented dev team and staff behind the brand-new tracker ScienceHD.info. Aptly-named ScienceHD is devoted to mostly high-definition content for sci-fi TV, documentaries, technology, nature and science-related torrents. Officially launching on the 39th annual Earth Day (April 22nd, 2009) SciHD is set to open up for public signups as early as next Wednesday. This Gazelle beauty already has some interesting features; including a web based in-house IRC chat complete with IMDb & TV bots. Currently all torrents are hosted on 100mbit seedboxes, and SciHD is also home to a group of internal encoders providing exclusive content.
ScienceHD is built around a science theme with the content consisting of either Science, or Science Fiction related torrents. Examples include shows from The History Channel, National Geographic, The Science Channel, Discovery, Animal Planet, TLC, The Biography Channel, and Planet Green just to name a few. Also included will be many popular SciFi TV shows such as Lost, Heroes, and Stargate Atlantis. Additionally, the site features audio books and ebooks, which are science/learning related, such as Michio Kaku’s ‘Physics of the Impossible’ and books like ‘Physics for dummies’.
SciHD is also privy to very unique torrent uploading options (i.e. - make your torrent freeleech for all, and an ‘Exclusive’ torrent option whereby the torrent isn’t allowed outside of the tracker).
Probably the most distinct feature is the inclusion of a small, but growing internal team of encoders that will be providing exclusive content, consistently predominantly of HD caps from some of the aforementioned channels, though blu-rays rips are definitely slated for inclusion as well.
Another feature worth mentioning is the gazelle setup of the tracker (think What.cd). This facet, coupled with a propriety naming system, strives to create a synergy of fast, efficient searches that result in a golden standard for ease of content selection. For example, take the complete season 4 of the hit show "Lost". It would be listed as ‘SciFi TV - Lost.Season.4′. From that entry then, users can select their preferred resolution, format, video and audio containers. So rather than search through 5 or 6 different torrents for the desired format, users find the content they are looking for and the can browse the available formats, such as: DVD-R, 1080p/MKV/AAC, 720p/MKV/AC3, and 480p/AVI/AC3, etc.
Some ScienceHD Features…
- • SciHD also has IMDb and TV.com bots for announcing releases in their IRC.
- • Has their own SSL certificate, so SSL browsing (https:) will be available shortly.
- • Category icons (think: BitMe/BitMeTV) for easy categorical browsing of similar torrents.
- • Implementation of a triple redundant backup of their database and server daily so they’ll be able to restore the site with minimal data loss in the event where things go wrong.
- • All new members start out with 10GB upload credit.
- • All torrents can be rated by users on a scale of 1 - 5.
- • ScienceHD IRC support channel can be found at irc.forpirates.net/SciHD-support.
As of now there’s just a 3,000 member limit. Once signups open, slots will fill up fast. Future plans for SciHD could include topsite access for the latest science scene releases. All that’s missing now is some good folks, who desire to be part of a team that’s not afraid to do things a bit different. Look for ScienceHD to open up registration publicly as soon as next Wednesday, April 29th. The signup URL (although we can’t confirm it) might be here:
