ZeroSec Future Grim - Closure Is Imminent, Expected

February 27, 2010 by sharky

The days are numbered for ZeroSec, once billed as the number 2 release blog second only to RlsLog.net. The new owners had but two avenues to traverse for the future of the blog: either keep the status quo; or else tank the site beyond all repair. After a series of blunders which can only be described as sheer lunacy on the part of the new proprietors, there’s little doubt that ZeroSec will come to a crashing halt, and soon. Abandoned by editors, readers and commenters - little else remains except for a quick death of this once-popular release site.

ReScene - Rebuild Extracted Scene Releases Into Rars

February 24, 2010 by sharky

Most of us who download scene releases don’t keep the original RARs, sample, NFO & SFV files after extracting the goodies inside. If you unpack and delete the RARs, there’s no way to get back to the originals without some major hacking - and even this doesn’t guarantee that the rar set will pass a proper CRC check when reseeding. But if you have the *.avi or *.mkv file, ReScene is a cool utility that lets users rebuild scene release NFO, SFV and RARs from a single extracted file back into their original scene format.

SharingTheNet (The Original StN) Accepting Applications

February 22, 2010 by sharky

No, this article isn’t about a P2L tracker. Those of you who’ve been around the private tracker scene long enough probably remember the original StN (sharing-the.net), a tracker discussion forum that went underground nearly a year ago. Comparable to other secretive (some will say "elite") BT communities that you may or may not have heard about (CFS, Panda, I-C/Indigo), StN - though small - is very much alive and rife with activity, and now accepting applications.

The Secrets of a Release Blog - SceneReleases Exposed

February 20, 2010 by sharky

Ever been curious to know what it takes to make a Release Blog tick? FSF certainly is, so we contacted Faolan & staff at SceneReleases to find out what goes on behind the scenes (pardon the pun) at a popular release blog. Not only was I fortunate enough to be made an "editor" where I published an actual ‘live’ post, but I was also rewarded with some fascinating information regarding the inner workings and daily life of a popular scene blog.

ScL is Back Online, But Torrentless

February 19, 2010 by sharky

Just a quick shoutout to all you ScL fans - ScL is now back online. But don’t jump up and down for joy just yet. The downtime has taken a toll on the site as it would appear as though they’ve lost all torrents. After nearly 7 long weeks of downtime, most of the site has been salvaged except for the torrents which unfortunately seem to be unrecoverable.

A senior staff member has now confirmed, "torrents are gone sorry, that part of the database got corrupted so only way to bring back ScL was to scrap that part." The latest message on their home/news page now reads:

Dear ScL Members,

As you know we have been down for some time now, and We are able to bring the site back to give our members some official updates.

So please stay tuned and check often for updates — ScL crew

DDLDB - Direct Download Links DB For Scene Releases

February 18, 2010 by sharky

Release blogs, warez forums and DDL indexers have certainly captured a wide audience for those who seek out scene/P2P releases found on filehosters. Under the best circumstances, it still remains a manual task for staff & uploaders to grab scene releases from various sources (leech FTPs, dumpsites, scene trackers) in order to post them to blogs & forums. But there’s one cool trend that we’re seeing more of lately; websites that post scene releases straight to direct download links. DDLDB.com is one such brand new pre-to-DDL service that DDL fans should find very handy - we’ll explain why.

February 17, 2010 by sharky

Longtime fans of the Desi tracker scene already know that DesiTorrents.com’s distinguished reputation speaks for itself. Online for more than six years and still going strong, DT is undeniably the leading pioneer of the Desi scene; the original Desi tracker. DT & FSF have teamed up to offer 500 "free signups" to our readers, strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.

Offer is now closed. In less than 18 hours, all 500 free signups have now been filled. FSF & DT extend a warm welcome to all new members!

How To Install rTorrent & ruTorrent (using Socket + SSL + Authentication) on Ubuntu or Debian

February 13, 2010 by sharky

There are plenty of tutorials out there that explain how to install rTorrent + ruTorrent, but this one’s a little different. This tutorial will guide you through the steps of installing rTorrent+libTorrent and ruTorrent on a Ubuntu or Debian server; with sockets, SSL, and authentication. The end product is a very secure rTorrent/ruTorrent installation that uses sockets (instead of ports); a password-protected GUI; and even an encrypted SSL (https) ruTorrent browse & login page.

February 11, 2010 by sharky

2010 is barely six weeks old and there’s already a ton of tracker activity on the BitTorrent scene. Here’s our latest assortment of new trackers, most of which have surfaced just this year. Some of these are great; some are so-so; and of course, some you’ll just want to downright avoid altogether.

‘BTN’ Launches - An Innovation Among TV Trackers

February 08, 2010 by sharky

At last - BTN has arrived. Stylist, chic and chock-full of features unseen elsewhere, finally there’s a torrent tracker that actually makes sense of TV releases. After tireless months of coding from an ambitious & highly-skilled team, BTN is built around a highly-customized codebase - making it one of the most original yet functional trackers that exists today. Sexy but simplistic & easy to navigate, BTN is the quintessential reason to how Gazelle can (and should) be applied to a TV tracker. We can’t say enough good things; you really need to get aboard this ratio-free tracker and see for yourself.

BTN is not just another TV Tracker.

The world’s most popular BitTorrent client has undergone quite a few significant changes; including auto-uTP & UDP tracker support, an enhanced setup guide, transfer cap settings, bandwidth management and even a new shiny skin.

Tracker’s Invites Being Offered Through Facebook = Facepalm

February 02, 2010 by sharky

Today, FSF received what could be interpreted as an alarming email; one private tracker in particular is offering the opportunity for Facebook members to request invites through their tracker’s official Facebook page. At first glance this plan seemed innovative & unique - but is all this really a good idea? Our hunch is that it’s probably not in anyone’s best interest to connect a Facebook account to a private tracker. But what do we know? Reader feedback on this is encouraged, but we’ll outline some key points.
