Sweninjaz, a Stylish New Scene Tracker Now Open

August 31, 2009 by sharky

The time has come to unveil Sweninjaz.org - the latest, greatest 0day scene tracker to come out of Sweden. After being in development over the past 4 months, Sweninjaz isn’t just another general tracker. Built on a heavily-modified version of Gazelle, however it has been completely rewritten from the ground up to fit a 0day tracker better - we think you’ll like the results! Registration is currently open for a very limited time.

The Strange PirateBay, or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love Other Trackers

August 30, 2009 by sharky

Call this our obligatory TPB article.

We’ve kept out of the spotlight when it concerns anything newsworthy related to ThePirateBay. Why? Well, to keep it short: Firstly, we don’t fancy FSF for being known as a leading "news" blog; Secondly, in the end TPB exiting the scene really won’t have a large impact on public BitTorrent, anyways. So, after answering more than a just few emails in regards to what might happen to the BitTorrent filesharing protocol once TPB is RIP, it’s time to set a few things straight.

SceneDDL Calls it Quits on New Releases

August 23, 2009 by sharky

There wasn’t nary a website on the interwebs that could claim the bragging rights to what SceneDDL did. Using sophisticated software, upload bots, and really great scene connections - SceneDDL tirelessly pumped out hundreds of scene releases day-after-day straight to Rapidshare, Easy-Share, MegaUpload et al. - faster than most torrent sites could ever dream of having access. Sadly, this August 17th marked the day when SceneDDL.net called it an end to new posts.

Free TorrentLeech Invites Through IRC: Confirmed

August 21, 2009 by sharky

This is news from a couple of days ago, yet comes with great skepticism from many in the private tracker community. Is TorrentLeech really handing out invites to anyone who asks? In a word, Yes. TorrentLeech is again offering invites - this time through their own IRC #invites channel (and currently continues to do so at last check). So, what’s the catch? Nothing at all. FSF confirmed this to be still working as early as one hour ago - and you won’t need to sign up to Travian or be a current member of FileList. Simply show up on their IRC #invites channel, and request an invite. Here’s how.

Update Aug. 24: “Invites channel is CLOSED. Whoever got invited, got invited. Have fun to the ones made it through, and play nice.”

Tracker Blu-Torrents for BluRay Movies (Ready to Burn)

August 19, 2009 by sharky

By now, there’s just about a tracker for every type of digitized media that exists. If something can be broken down into 0’s and 1’s, there’ll probably be a torrent site that offers it. While there are no Blu-Ray only trackers (until now), those seeking BD’s will usually utilize good HD trackers and more prominent scene/general sites for their Blu-Ray torrents. Blu-Torrents.net is just that: a new niche Blu-Ray tracker, but with a couple of interesting twists…

How to Create a Tracker, Part 3: Torrent & User Details

August 17, 2009 by Hangman

In this third part of the tutorial (Parts I & II here), our goal is to show some information about our torrents and users. We’ll go through a bunch of tips and snippets that any developer may find useful while developing a torrent site, such as some util functions to display relative times, friendly sizes and a tree with files and folders.

New Forum BittClub.org Open For Signups

August 16, 2009 by sharky

Call this our unofficial tracker invites weekend. BittClub.org isn’t exactly a new P2P forum, but has only recently begun to hit their stride. Beginning in late April, little-known BittClub offers the usual fare: tracker invites, discussion and everything else that has to do with the torrent community. We’re bending one of their rules here - "BittClub" isn’t supposed to be mentioned publicly, as they prefer only to be referred to as BTC.

TakeMe - A New Site for Tracker Chat and Invites

August 15, 2009 by sharky

As promised, here’s another tracker invite forum that is currently open for registration. Take The Invite (aka TakeMe) is a brand-new torrent board that launched just three days ago, yet shows signs of promise. While most of the board is off limits to non-members, there are some public areas so you’ll be able to preview it before signing up.

ETIV Reopens Registration For the Next 24 Hours

August 14, 2009 by sharky

This weekend, we’ve got an impressive array of torrent forum info to catch you up on, starting with Etiv.in. Etiv began life merely two months ago, yet has quickly blossomed into one of the Internet’s hotspots for tracker invites & discussion. After we announced their humble beginning, Etiv quickly closed public registration after just a few short days, and hasn’t been open since - until now. Missed the boat? Here’s your chance to get in, using this special FSF signup link that’s only going to be open for the next 24 hours.

Beta Tracker AliveOnThe.Net Open, But Conditionally

August 13, 2009 by sharky

This is not an announcement to promote a new tracker that wants a bevy of new users. AliveOnThe.net does, but it wants good members that can contribute to the site. Strictly in "beta" it’s anyone’s guess to why this new tracker is actually open to public registration at all. First of all; this tracker hasn’t had any exposure (but has a ton of staff activity) - and second; they’re only looking for great individuals who’ll help out.

UPDATE: Registration has now been closed to the public. However, members of What.CD can still contact Kavinorum or Gravey13 for a beta invite.

Featured Forum: SceneInvites Open For Registration

August 11, 2009 by sharky

There are two brand-new torrent forums that have recently opened up shop - the first one under review is SceneInvites.info. At just barely a week old, ScI already lists an impressive 118 members and 1,620 posts - not bad for a fledgling board. Forum ideas are well-thought out: there’s already a list of no-movement sites, and a good selection of tutorials.

A Comparison of Three rTorrent Seedbox Web Frontends

August 11, 2009 by sharky

More and more seedbox providers are beginning to switch over to rTorrent/libTorrent as their offered BitTorrent client - and for good reason: rTorrent is natively Linux-based so it’s easy on resources; it’s open-source (new UIs and plugins can be developed); and it’s a whitelisted BT client on just about every private tracker. TorrentFlux is bloated and has a high learning curve, and uTorrent WebUI is nothing more than an afterthought with minimal features. rTorrent is taking over the seedbox world, thanks in large part to three popular rTorrent web front-ends — ruTorrent, wTorrent and rtGui.

Use uTBackup to Save and Restore uTorrent Settings

August 10, 2009 by sharky

µTBackup is a clever new utility that allows uTorrent users to save all those program setting files in order to import or restore into a new uTorrent installation - such as on another PC or when upgrading the OS. No more searching for the "appdata" folder and having to copy/paste the files or backup the directory - this little app does it all for you, at the click of a button.

The Death of TrackeReactor? Closed or Hacked?

August 07, 2009 by sharky

On first glance it would appear that in a surprise move by LiquidizleR - the owner/sysop of TrackeReactor.com - has closed down the popular torrent invites & discussion forum. The decision was a tough & personal one, as he no longer felt able to lead the forum as he should, due to college and lack of time (so the story goes). Even TR’s IRC channel is also currently offline. But this may have been much more than just a simple closure, and many suspect foul play.

Update: TrackeReactor is currently open for signups at this URL: http://trackereactor.com/register.php

28 New Private Torrent Trackers: August 2009 Edition

August 06, 2009 by sharky

You gotta love private trackers. The growth of new sites shows no trend in slowing down anytime soon, confirming that BitTorrent is the most widely-accepted and successful P2P protocol of all time. Here are some new startups that are currently open for registration, including 4 new adult trackers and 3 sports trackers. Some are gems, and some are duds - you be the judge.

Adult Trackers:

http://www.velvet-touch.me

Velvet-Touch.me is a new adult tracker that started up in the beginning of July 2009. The site design is great; content is well-organized and easy to browse; and there’s even IRC-idle bonus - the only thing missing are some uploaders (there’s only 70 active torrents). Could be a real contender if only there was more content. TBDev FTW for adult trackers.
